When Arthur Abraham and Carl Froch clash on Nov. 27 in Helsinki, Finland, the vacant WBC World Super Middleweight Championship will be on the line. The sanctioning body has ruled in favor of an appeal filed by Sauerland and Hennessy Sports, in order to make this third round fight of the Super Six World Boxing Classic a title fight.
“Now I can finally become world champion in two divisions,” said Abraham happily. “I have been waiting so long for this opportunity. I can’t wait for the moment, when I step into the ring against Carl Froch.”
Originally Andre Ward and Andre Dirrell were supposed to fight for the vacant strap, but since both parties seem unable to agree on a venue, the WBC reversed its decision in favor of Abraham and Froch.
Unbeaten heavyweight challenger Alexander Povetkin will face Nigerian Teke Oruh on Oct. 16th in St. Petersburg. This is part of Teddy Atlas’ plan of getting Povetkin 3-5 tune-up fights, in order to be ready to challenge either Haye or the Klitschkos. Should everything go well, Povetkin plans to step in the ring again as early as Oct. 30th, his opponent has yet to be announced. “The African Prince” Oruh, who has never been stopped, has lost his last two fights and has been inactive since Nov. 2008.
