10.) Can Rocky Juarez finally win on the big stage? Boxing fans have been saying for years “its coming, its coming” as they wait for Rocky to shift out of first gear. Linares might be a good opponent for Rocky to work his way into title contention against.
9.) What does Joel Casamayor have left in the tank? The general consensus is that Casa is shot. After going 11 highly competitive rounds with a top pound-for-pound fighter in Juan Manuel Marquez, and handing Katsidis his first loss, he may have more left to offer than we think.
8.) All night action. When is the last time we had a PPV card that spans the entire night without getting dull?
7.) A glimpse at the future of the Middleweight division will be on display. Brownsville, Brooklyn boxer Danny Jacobs will surely be looking to impress in his first world title fight. OK, so his opponent is fairly unknown, but why not watch a top-level talent in a division that is brimming with future headliners following so many years of lackluster bouts.
6.) First-hand look at Jorge Linares. While his name has been around boxing circles for a few years now; whether its from him tearing up sparring partners on the west coast, or him completely outclassing his lower level opponents thus far - not too many have actually seen him on the screen. This is a real test for the Venezuelan native, and an opportunity to silence his critics from the lone shocking loss in his career last October against Juan Carlos Salgado.
5.) We need more depth to PPVs these days. Just like the Super Six Tournament is seeing great success by way of its numbers, as boxing fans let's show we will support the cards the promoters stack. Boxing fans need to make great events successful.
4.) With Robert Guerrero's wife suffering from Leukemia, it’s a wonder he can still make it to the gym, train and stay focused. Mrs. Guerrero's Leukemia has gone in and out of remission, and she's had to endure bone marrow transplants and operations. Let's help support Guerrero, his wife and the fight against Leukemia.
3.) Rematch of the Fight of the Year for 2009. Juan Diaz and Juan Manuel Marquez are promising another action-packed fight, and seeing how neither guy has been in too many snoozers, this re-match is likely to pick up right where the last one left off. Expect a highly competitive fight with tough to score rounds, and both guys giving 100% every second of the fight. Don’t expect anything less - neither one of these fighters will be stepping off the gas to coast.
2.) Stellar matchups. You could make a case for nearly any fighter on the card to leave with a victory.
1.) The obvious - it’s a stacked card. The last time a boxing fan could look at a PPV card and recognize more than a couple former, current and future headliners was a long time ago. You have to go back to the 90s when Don King would regularly put together cards featuring Felix Trinidad, Julio Cesar Chavez, Hector Camacho, Azumah Nelson, Thomas Hearns, etc.
Let's celebrate this throwback card by getting together with some friends and our favorite beverages. Tonight features great match-ups that are sure to be great for the sport we appreciate and revere so much.
