WBO Cruiserweight Champion Marco Huck will face #1 ranked challenger Denis Lebedev on December 18, in Berlin. Huck’s fifth title defense should be his toughest challenge so far, Lebedev has a reputation as a vicious puncher and is unbeaten in 21 outings. “We are very happy to stage this fight in Germany”, said Sauerland CEO Chris Meyer. “There is no doubt that this will be a spectacular fight.” The German champion is also looking forward to this fight. “I expect a very tough battle," said Huck. "We are both boxers that go for the KO I am very happy to fight in Berlin once again, because I know that I can count on the support of the people in the Max-Schmeling-Halle.”

The Heavyweight Championship of the World was once the ultimate crown in the world of athletics as well as masculinity. It was the prize all fighters dreamed of one day grasping, regardless of their national, social or individual loyalties - the desire to be deemed the "baddest man on the planet" was a lust universal to combatants the world over. The halls of history are lined with those who sacrificed all they had in order to position themselves to be the man standing across the ring from the guardian of the gold. Some have even sacrificed all more than once, with the feeling that a shot at the greatest prize in boxing is not to be denied.

Boxing's already slow October, has slowed down even more. It seems like half of the notable fights scheduled for the end of this month and early next month have been scrapped. Fernando Montiel's bout cancelled due to an auto accident, Holyfield vs. Williams in Detroit has been canceled (or postponed depending on who you talk to), Guzman vs. Fernandez has been canceled. The cancellation trend has even reached Teddy Atlas, with the veteran trainer scrapping the final two matches of his Ham & Egger Heaven Tour 2010, featuring his charge Alexander Povetkin facing three consecutive no-hopers. The adversity Ken Hershman and Showtime have faced in keeping the Super Six World Dirty Boxing Classic together has been well documented.

Following the recent cancellation of the Alexander Povetkin vs Wladimir Klitschko bout, it's been nothing but groans from the boxing community - with the occasional profanity thrown in. Boxing fans were looking forward to a potentially exciting World Heavyweight Championship fight, but are now left with another bland match-up as Samuel Peter substitutes for Povetkin in the ring. What may have been an important rematch 3-4 years ago is just another title defense.

At today's official press conference for the Klitschko vs. Povetkin fight set for Sept. 11, the Ukrainian champion, Wladimir Klitschko, had to pose with a cardboard version of Alexander Povetkin because his opponent didn't show up. Povetkin, who suffers from sinusitis, sent Klitschko a fax at 11:50 pm yesterday stating he would not be in attendance at the press conference in Frankfurt.

Now that the dust has settled, last weekend's Sauerland card looks less controversial than it initially appeared to be. Following approximately 10 minutes of score tallying, a little scuffle broke out when one of Karamzin's people tried to photograph the scoring sheets. Sources close to the scene have since revealed the reason behind the incident, Judge Pasquale Procopio scored the bout 6 rounds for each fighter............
